John Hyman – “Truth and Truthfulness in Painting” (London Aesthetics Forum)

25 March 2020, 4:00 PM6:00 PM GMT

John Hyman, RoR’s PI, will give a talk at The London Aesthetics Forum, on Wednesday 25 March 2020, 16.00–18.00, in Room 246, Second Floor, Senate House. (This talk was originally scheduled to be given on 12 February.)

Abstract

In Truth and Truthfulness, Bernard Williams examines a “suspicion about truth itself”, which he claims is “very prominent in modern thought and culture”.  I shall examine a similar “suspicion” in the theory of art, and discuss the bearing of truth and truthfulness in painting on the theory of truth itself.
