John Hyman – “Truth and Truthfulness in Painting” (London Aesthetics Forum)

John Hyman, RoR’s PI, will give a talk at the London Aesthetics Forum meeting on Wednesday 7 October 2020, 16.00–18.00 (UK time), on Zoom.

Here is the abstract for the talk:

In Truth and Truthfulness, Bernard Williams examines a “suspicion about truth itself”, which he claims is “very prominent in modern thought and culture”. I shall examine a similar “suspicion” in the theory of art, and discuss the bearing of truth and truthfulness in painting on the theory of truth itself.
