Project commencement

1 October 2018

The ERC advanced grant project, The Roots of Responsibility: Metaphysics, Humanity, and Society, officially commenced on 1 October 2018. Its Principal Investigator is John Hyman, Grote Professor of the Philosophy of Mind and Logic at University College London.

Roots of Responsibility advances traditional philosophical debates about responsibility and free will by exploring the network of human capacities responsibility involves and the social, institutional and interpersonal contexts in which questions about responsibility arise.

In each of the five years of the project, the team led by Professor Hyman will run ten seminars, host two lectures by invited speakers, and hold one or two workshops. Four post-doctoral research fellows will be appointed, each for two years, two during Years 2 and 3, and another two during Years 4 and 5. A closing international conference will be held in Year 5.
