Call for Abstracts:

Professor Joseph Raz, to many of us a lifelong mentor, colleague and dear friend, passed away on May 2nd, 2022. In recognition of Raz’s enormous influence in philosophy and legal theory, organizers of the twin conferences in tribute to his work invite you to submit a proposal for presenting a paper in one of the conferences. The proposal should consist of a reasonably detailed abstract of about 500-800 words. Your paper is not expected to be a commentary on Raz’s work, but it does have to relate to it somehow.

We expect to have 8 or 9 papers discussed in each conference, over two and half days. The papers will be pre-circulated and pre-read. Participation in the conferences will be open to all, subject only to limits of space and safety. All participants, including presenters, are expected to cover their travel and accommodation expenses. (A very limited hardship fund for young and/or underfunded scholars to help cover their expenses will be available.)

Abstracts should be sent to lawevents@kcl.ac.uk using the subject line “Raz Conference – submission”. They should arrive no later than January 31 2023, indicating clearly whether you intend it for the London or the New York conference. If you prefer one venue but would be willing to be considered for the other one instead, please say so explicitly. Each conference has its steering committee, listed below, and each committee will pick the papers for presentation. The review process is not blind, there is no need to conceal your identity. Since we hope to publish selected papers from the conferences in an edited volume, please do not submit an abstract of a paper that is committed or planned to be published elsewhere.
